Our History

Martin Wood jewellers is an historic company with over 60 years in the jewellery industry.

Martin started work at the legendary Dysons jewellers in leeds as a watch repairer and watch maker.  He worked at the bench with other renowned watch repairers at this established store and this is where is learned and honed his craft.

John Dyson founded his business which became a landmark in the city of leeds and in the lives of its people.  Watches were set by the 'Time Ball' on the building , while just how many romances began with the words 'I'll meet you under Dyson's Clock is pure speculation , but couples did,  and when it came to purchasing the engagement ring, Dysons was the obvious choice.

In 1972, Martin took his skills to the famous market town of Wetherby where he opened his first jewellery boutique and this remains a landmark in the town to this day.

Martin focused on traditional watch repairing and jewellery retail here and once his son Simon had completed his schooling he joined him as his prodigy.

Like his father Simon specialised in those early days in the art of watch repairing but quickly learned that he loved all areas of the industry and began to focus on gold and precious stones.

In 1984, the shops success had grown to such an extent that a further boutique was opened in Garforth and it was Simon who became the owner/manager.

In 1994 when his father passed away Simon moved back to Wetherby as this is the flagship store and began to put his energies into what is now known as 'Vintage and Preowned' jewellery.

Being better quality , better value and more desirable than some of the new pieces Simon quickly saw a gap in the market for showcasing vintage pieces and now this has become Martin Wood Vintage.

As interest in preowned gold and stones has grown, so has the business and we can now offer spotlighting these pieces here, online and the opportunity to view in real time in the physical store itself.  Here customers can feel the pieces, see them on themselves and fall in love in real world and not just online.

Alongside his team - Mel, Sharon and Miriam the Wetherby store covers all areas of goldsmithing, repairing, restoring and reimagining new items with a bespoke service.

With all of this in mind, if you do see something online and are worried about losing out -you can contact us with a hold request and you can come and see the piece at your leisure .

Welcome again to Martin Wood Vintage.

We hope to see you soon.
